EDUCATION ACTIVITIES

CHILDREN

Godly Play
Godly Play is a wonderful experience for children. It is Montessori based using a worship model rather than a classroom one. During the year as we are building and strengthening the community of children, we explore sacred stories, parables, seasons of the church year, and sacraments. The children immediately recognize that they are in space designed with children in mind! Everything is at their eye level and everything can be touched. This is an imaginative method with time for the lesson of the day and creative response time with a variety of materials. The sacred stories are followed with wondering questions…no right or wrong answers…but a safe place to wonder and respond.

Judi Creneti, our Godly Play teacher at Peace is a certified Godly Play leader who has been enjoying this approach with children for ten years.

Walk With Me
Walk With Me is a wonderful curriculum for older elementary children.  Engaging scripture with fun activities and a little memory work, the 3-5th graders enjoy learning the stories and the meaning of faith.

Peace in the Park
Peace in the Park is one of Peace’s best educational activities.   On teacher workdays, elementary-age children are invited to the park for a day of learning how to live more peaceably in this world.   Lessons in self-esteem, conflict resolution, diversity in faith and culture, and environmental education are taught through games, activities, and music.  Get more information on the Peace in the Park page.

Trips to Montreat and Cedarkirk are also great learning experiences for all ages.

YOUTH

Middle School
Middle school aged youth, grades 6-8, are using the Presbyterian curriculum The Bible - The Story of God's Faithfulness: A Survey of the Old Testament.  This study of the Old Testament helps the participants make connections and see the whole picture through this sequential, systematic approach to Bible Study. Next year, the youth will rotate to a Survey of the New Testament. Our hope is for Peace youth to gain an understanding of the biblical narrative thus allowing them to explore Christian discipleship in high school.

High School
Presently, high school youth, grades 9-12, are spending the year in a confirmation journey using the Presbyterian resource, Professing Our Faith: A Confirmation Curriculum. The scope and sequence of Professing Our Faith echoes the emphases of the Study Catechism (Confirmation Version) by presenting the biblical foundations and theology of the Apostle’s Creed, the Ten Commandments and the Lord’s Prayer. Additionally, it invites young people to explore the meaning of their baptism and their participation at the Lord's Supper, as well as to learn about church polity, stewardship, spiritual practices, worship and mission.
